Hot-dip galvanized (Z) is zinc on both faces, applied continuously to the coil. It is the workhorse: roofing, framing, ducting, purlins, anything that needs corrosion resistance and will be painted later or not at all.
Pre-painted (PPGI) is galvanized coil with a primer and topcoat baked on. It arrives finished in a RAL colour and needs no site painting, which is why it dominates visible roofing and cladding.
Cold-rolled (DKP) carries no coating at all. It is in this family because it comes off the same continuous lines and feeds the same customers: pressed parts, panels and anything that will be painted or plated after forming.
Coating class is a service-life decision
The number after Z is grams of zinc per square metre counting both faces. Z100 is an indoor or paint-first class; Z140 is the common stock class; Z200 and Z275 are the roofing and export classes; Z350 and above go to agricultural, humid and coastal work.
Life scales with the class in a given atmosphere: in a C3 urban environment Z275 gives roughly 12–18 years to first rust and Z140 about half that. The class is inside the invoiced weight, so a heavier class is heavier steel as well as dearer steel.
Forming grade or structural grade
Two grade families run through this catalogue and they are not interchangeable. DX51D to DX54D are forming grades, sorted by how severely they can be bent, drawn or pressed — DX51D bends, DX54D deep-draws. S220GD to S350GD are structural grades with a guaranteed yield strength, used where the profile carries load: purlins, decking, framing, rails.
Asking for "galvanized sheet" without naming one of these is the most common cause of a wrong delivery. If the part is pressed, name a DX grade; if it carries load, name an S grade and the yield you need.

Frequently asked questions
What does Z275 mean?
275 grams of zinc per square metre counting both faces, about 20 µm per side. It is the standard export class for roofing and outdoor use, and gives roughly 12–18 years to first base-steel rust in a C3 urban atmosphere.
What is the difference between DX51D and S280GD?
DX51D is a forming grade with no guaranteed yield strength — it is specified by how well it bends. S280GD is a structural grade guaranteed to 280 MPa yield and used where the formed profile carries load. They are not substitutes for one another.
Is the zinc included in the weight I pay for?
Yes. The coil is weighed after coating, so the zinc is in the invoiced mass. Z275 adds about 3.9 kg per square metre of sheet across both faces, which is around 7 % of the shipped weight on a 0.50 mm sheet.
What is PPGI?
Pre-painted galvanized iron: galvanized coil with a primer and a baked topcoat, supplied in RAL colours. It removes site painting entirely and is the standard product for visible roofing, cladding and sandwich panel skins.
Can galvanized sheet be painted?
Yes, but the surface must be specified for it. Order surface quality B with chemical passivation, and tell us if the part will be powder-coated — passivation is not a paint primer and an oiled surface has to be degreased first.
