What is DC06 cold-rolled steel?
DC06 is made from interstitial-free steel: carbon is reduced to 0.02 % or less by vacuum degassing and the remaining carbon and nitrogen are tied up by titanium and/or niobium additions, so no interstitial atoms are left to pin dislocations. The consequences are exactly what a press shop wants — a very low, stable yield (typically 120–160 MPa), the highest plastic strain ratio of any carbon sheet (r90 ≥ 2.1, often 2.3–2.6), n90 ≥ 0.22, and no strain ageing at any storage time or bake temperature. Draw ratios of 2.3 and more, deep multi-stage parts, large stretch-formed panels with sharp feature lines and enamelled parts that must not fish-scale all belong to DC06. The surface is ordered B matt for painting; the steel is soft and marks easily, so handling and die cleanliness matter. It is produced on a handful of lines (Erdemir for some gauges, EU mills for the rest) and is a project item with a 4–6 week lead time.

Forming, welding and painting
The deepest draws and most complex stretch-forms in carbon steel; low blank-holder force, generous radii, drawing oil, immaculate tooling. Bake-hardening is nil (no interstitials) — if a bake-hardening effect is wanted, order a BH grade instead. Spot and laser welding routine; the very low carbon gives soft, ductile welds. Painting and e-coat after phosphating; enamelling excellent (no fish-scaling from hydrogen traps when properly processed).
Where it is used
- Automotive super-deep-drawn outer and inner panels
- Complex multi-stage pressings and stretch-formed skins
- Enamelled bath tubs, boilers and appliance tubs
- Deep cans, cups and cartridges
- Parts requiring zero stretcher-strain risk after long storage
DC06 vs DC05
DC05 (r ≥ 1.9) is Al-killed ultra-low-carbon steel with a non-ageing guarantee; DC06 (r ≥ 2.1) is interstitial-free with no ageing mechanism at all and the highest drawability. If the part draws in DC05, stay there — DC06 costs about 15 USD/t more and takes longer. Choose DC06 for draw ratios above 2.3, for parts stored long before pressing, and where the specification names IF steel. See DC05 and the stock grade DC04.
Price
DC06 is priced about 50 USD/t over DC01 as an imported IF grade; the band below is indicative FOB Istanbul for mill-order coil.
Bands from our weekly export list (September 2026), FOB Istanbul, full-container quantities, excluding freight and certificates. Firm price per project on RFQ within one working day.
Export and packing
We load DC06 cold-rolled steel as slit or master coils on cradles (VCI paper, strapped, 5–25 t) or as cut-to-length sheet on skids (≤ 3 t, interleaved, edge boards); a 20' container carries one coil to 20 t, a 40' HC two coils or 24 t of sheet. HS 7210 / 7209 / 7208.

Frequently asked questions
What is DC06 steel?
The super-deep-drawing cold-rolled sheet of EN 10130 (1.0873): interstitial-free steel with C ≤ 0.02 %, yield ≤ 180 MPa, r90 ≥ 2.1, n90 ≥ 0.22 and no strain ageing — for the most complex automotive and enamelled pressings.
What is interstitial-free steel?
Steel in which the carbon and nitrogen that would otherwise sit between iron atoms are removed by vacuum degassing and tied up by titanium or niobium, giving very high drawability and no ageing.
What is the equivalent of DC06?
JIS SPCG, ASTM A1008 EDDS (IF), GB DC06; there is no DIN 1623 predecessor.
What is the lead time for DC06?
4–6 weeks — it is produced on a few lines against order and is not stocked in Turkey.
