What is DX54D galvanized steel?
DX54D is the fourth forming level of EN 10346 and the first with guaranteed drawing indices: r90 ≥ 1.6 (the sheet resists thinning and flows from the flange) and n90 ≥ 0.18 (it work-hardens evenly and spreads strain). To reach those values the substrate is an ultra-low-carbon (≤ 0.06 %, typically 0.002–0.02 %) aluminium-killed or interstitial-free steel, annealed for a strong {111} texture; the result is a yield of only 120–220 MPa with 36 % elongation and complete freedom from ageing. It is the material of galvanized automotive body panels, deep-drawn appliance drums and housings, and any part with a draw ratio above 2. The zinc coating is ordered thin and minimised-spangle (Z100–Z140 M) to survive the draw; Z275 is available for non-automotive use. Above DX54D the standard lists DX56D and DX57D for the most extreme automotive parts — available on request from the same lines.

Forming, welding and painting
Draw ratios above 2.0 and multi-stage draws without intermediate annealing; low blank-holder force, generous punch radii (≥ 4 × t) and zinc-compatible lubricant. IF steel is soft — protect the surface from handling marks and order paper interleaving. Spot welding with pulsed schedules; laser welding of tailored blanks is routine. Paint systems as for DX53D; the surface (quality B, minimised spangle) is the basis for automotive e-coat.
Where it is used
- Automotive body panels and structural inner parts
- Deep-drawn appliance drums, tubs and housings
- Cups, cylinders and cans drawn deeper than their diameter
- Luminaire and reflector bodies
- Complex multi-stage pressings for HVAC and electrical equipment
DX54D vs DX53D vs DC04
DX53D is the general deep-drawing grade without guaranteed r/n values; DX54D adds those guarantees and a lower, narrower yield window at a premium of about 30 USD/t. The uncoated counterpart is DC04 (EN 10130) — same drawing class, no zinc — used when the part is painted or plated afterwards.
Price
DX54D is an imported automotive-class grade, priced about 70 USD/t over DX51D; the band below is indicative FOB Istanbul for mill-order coil.
Bands from our weekly export list (September 2026), FOB Istanbul, full-container quantities, excluding freight and certificates. Firm price per project on RFQ within one working day.
Export and packing
We load DX54D galvanized steel as slit or master coils on cradles (VCI paper, strapped, 5–25 t) or as cut-to-length sheet on skids (≤ 3 t, interleaved, edge boards); a 20' container carries one coil to 20 t, a 40' HC two coils or 24 t of sheet. HS 7210 / 7209 / 7208.

Frequently asked questions
What is DX54D?
The extra-deep-drawing hot-dip galvanized steel of EN 10346 (1.0306): ultra-low-carbon substrate, yield 120–220 MPa, elongation ≥ 36 %, guaranteed r90 ≥ 1.6 and n90 ≥ 0.18, coating Z100–Z275.
What is the ASTM equivalent of DX54D?
ASTM A653 EDDS (Extra Deep Drawing Steel); JIS G3302 SGCD3.
Is DX54D interstitial-free steel?
Usually — mills reach the r-value requirement with Ti-stabilised IF steel (C ≈ 0.003 %); Al-killed ultra-low-carbon heats can also qualify.
What is the lead time for DX54D?
4–6 weeks — it is produced on specific EU and Turkish lines against order; it is not a stock item.
