DC05 Cold Rolled Steel

DC05 exists for the parts that DC04 cannot quite finish: a wheel-arch, a fuel-tank half, a two-stage drawn cylinder with a flange. Its higher r-value keeps the wall from thinning where DC04 would neck, and the press shop pays about 15 USD/t for that margin. We bring it in from Erdemir or EU mills against the part and the tonnage.

What is DC05 cold-rolled steel?

DC05 tightens every DC04 requirement: carbon 0.06 % max (typically 0.02), manganese 0.35 %, phosphorus and sulphur 0.025 %, yield capped at 180 MPa, elongation 40 % and — the decisive figures — r90 ≥ 1.9 and n90 ≥ 0.20. The higher r-value comes from a more strongly developed {111} annealing texture, obtained with an ultra-low-carbon, aluminium-killed heat and a long batch anneal or a controlled continuous anneal. In the die, that texture means the flange feeds inward freely while the cup wall keeps its thickness, so draw ratios of 2.1–2.3 and deep second-stage draws succeed without the necking that limits DC04. DC05 is the working grade of automotive outer skins (doors, bonnets, wings), wheel-house and floor-pan pressings, fuel-tank halves and any complex multi-stage part; it is also chosen for enamelled deep-drawn ware where a defect-free wall matters. It is non-ageing without time limit in practice. DC06 goes one step further with interstitial-free steel.

Forming, welding and painting

Draw ratios above 2.1, multi-stage draws and stretch-forming of large panels; low blank-holder force, polished or coated tools, drawing oil. The soft surface marks easily — handle with paper interleaving and clean dies. Spot and laser welding routine; MAG on thicker gauges. Painting and e-coat after phosphating; enamelling on the matt finish.

Where it is used

  • Automotive outer panels: doors, bonnets, wings, roofs
  • Wheel-houses, floor pans and complex inner panels
  • Fuel-tank halves and pressure-less vessel shells
  • Multi-stage drawn cylinders, cups and cans
  • Enamelled deep-drawn ware (bath tubs, appliance tubs)
  • Heat-exchanger and radiator pressings

DC05 vs DC04 vs DC06

DC04 (r ≥ 1.6) from stock handles most industrial drawing; DC05 (r ≥ 1.9) is the automotive outer-panel and multi-stage grade; DC06 (r ≥ 2.1, IF steel) is for the deepest and most complex parts and for total freedom from ageing. Price steps are about 15 USD/t each.

Export and packing

DC05 cold-rolled steel ships as coil — eye-to-sky on a wooden cradle, 5–25 t per coil, VCI paper and steel strapping — or as cut sheet on skids of 2–3 t with paper interleaving and edge protectors. A 20' takes one coil up to 20 t; a 40' HC two coils or 24 t of sheet. HS 7210 / 7209 / 7208 by product.

Certificates and testing

DC05 cold-rolled steel ships with EN 10204 3.1 certificates cross-referenced to the stencilled heat numbers. Where the project requires it we arrange 3.2 certification with Lloyd's, BV, TÜV or SGS, ultrasonic examination to EN 10160 and Charpy testing at the temperature you specify.

Frequently asked questions

What is DC05 steel?

The extra-deep-drawing cold-rolled sheet of EN 10130 (1.0312, ex St 15): yield ≤ 180 MPa, elongation ≥ 40 %, guaranteed r90 ≥ 1.9 and n90 ≥ 0.20, non-ageing — for automotive panels and multi-stage draws.

What is the difference between DC04 and DC05?

DC05 has a lower yield ceiling (180 vs 210 MPa), higher elongation (40 vs 38 %) and higher guaranteed drawing indices (r ≥ 1.9 vs 1.6); it allows draw ratios above 2.1.

What is the equivalent of DC05?
