What is RAL 9002 PPGI sheet?
RAL 9002, Grauweiß / grey white, is an off-white with a faint grey-yellow cast — bright enough to reflect around 78 % of visible light and most solar heat, dull enough not to glare or show dirt streaks the way pure white does. That balance made it the default colour of the industrial-building trade in the 1970s and it has stayed there: probably a third of all coil-coated steel rolled in Europe and the Middle East is 9002. On PPGI it is supplied as a 25 µm polyester top coat over a primer on hot-dip galvanized steel (DX51D+Z100 to EN 10346, Z140–Z275 on request), with a 5–8 µm grey backing coat, in coil 1 000–1 250 mm wide and 0.35–1.2 mm thick. Because every mill runs it continuously, it is the cheapest colour, the one with the best availability in every gauge, and the one where batch-to-batch colour matching between coil, sheet, panel and accessories is least of a problem — although we still recommend ordering roof, wall and flashings from the same batch. Its solar reflectance (SRI ≈ 90) qualifies it as a cool-roof colour in most green-building schemes, and its light interior reflectance is why sandwich-panel liner sides are 9002 too. We keep 0.35, 0.40, 0.45, 0.50, 0.60 and 0.70 mm in stock and feed our trapezoidal and sandwich-panel lines from the same coils.
Colour data
| RAL code | Name | Approx. hex | Light reflectance (LRV) | Gloss (60°) | Colour tolerance |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| RAL 9002 | Grey white / Grauweiß | #E7EBDA | ≈ 78 % | 30–40 (semi-gloss); 10–20 matt on request | ΔE ≤ 1.0 to RAL 841-GL, batch-matched |
Coating systems for this colour
| System | Top coat | Life to first maintenance | When to choose |
|---|---|---|---|
| PE polyester | 25 µm | 10–15 yr | stock; roofs, walls, panels |
| SMP | 25 µm | 15–20 yr | coastal, 15-yr warranty |
| HDP | 25 µm | 20–25 yr | long warranty, high UV |
| PVDF | 25–35 µm | 25–30 yr | façades, colour guarantee |
| Backing | 5–8 µm grey | — | 15 µm for double-sided |
RAL 9002 is a low-chroma colour with the best colour retention of any shade: even plain PE stays within ΔE 3 after 10 years in a C3 atmosphere, so PE is the right system unless the site is coastal or the warranty demands SMP/PVDF.
Colour matching and accessories
Roof sheet, wall sheet, sandwich panels, ridge caps, flashings, gutters and screws (with painted heads) should all come from the same colour batch — 9002 varies slightly between mills and paint suppliers (the yellow cast in particular). We supply flashings folded from the same coil as the sheet, and colour-matched EPDM-washer screws. Interior liner sheets are normally 9002 as well; where a building is 9002 outside and needs a different liner colour, the double-sided coating (15 µm inside) is specified.

Steel at 7.85 kg/dm³ plus Z100 zinc and 25/7 µm paint (≈ 0.10 kg/m²); thickness is the total coated thickness (TCT) unless bare metal (BMT) is specified.
Forming, cutting and handling
Roll-forms into any trapezoidal, corrugated or tile profile and folds to 1–2 × t without cracking the paint (PE is flexible to T-bend ≤ 2T); shear, slit and punch cleanly — plasma and laser burn the coating back and are avoided. Keep the protective film on through forming and remove within 6 months; store coils dry and on cradles (wet storage stain shows on white). Cut edges rely on the zinc for protection; touch-up paint is available in matching 9002.
Where it is used
- Trapezoidal and corrugated roofing and wall sheet
- Sandwich-panel outer and inner skins
- Ridge caps, flashings, gutters and downpipes
- Metal deck and purlin liner sheet
- Prefab cabins, containers and warehouses
- Doors, shutters, cabinets and appliances (heavier gauge)
RAL 9002 vs 9010 vs 9006
RAL 9010 is a cleaner, brighter white for shopfronts, offices and food buildings — it shows dirt more and costs a little more. RAL 9006 white aluminium is the metallic silver-grey of modern cladding. 9002 is the practical, warm off-white that most industrial roofs are, and the one with the widest stock.
Price
RAL 9002 is the base price of the PPGI list — every other colour carries a small premium — and it moves with the galvanized coil price and the paint index. The bands below are the month\'s indicative FOB Istanbul ranges for 0.50 mm PE and for the full stock gauge range.
Bands from our weekly export list (September 2026), FOB Istanbul, full-container quantities, excluding freight and certificates. Firm price per project on RFQ within one working day.
Export and packing
We load RAL 9002 PPGI sheet as slit or master coils on cradles (VCI paper, strapped, 5–25 t) or as cut-to-length sheet on skids (≤ 3 t, interleaved, edge boards); a 20' container carries one coil to 20 t, a 40' HC two coils or 24 t of sheet. HS 7210 / 7209 / 7208.

Frequently asked questions
What colour is RAL 9002?
Grey white — a warm off-white with a slight grey-yellow cast, the standard colour of industrial roofing, cladding and sandwich panels.
What is the difference between RAL 9002 and RAL 9010?
9010 pure white is cleaner and brighter; 9002 is softer, hides dust better and costs less. Roofs and industrial walls are usually 9002, retail and food buildings 9010.
Is RAL 9002 a cool-roof colour?
Yes — with an SRI around 90 it reflects most solar heat and qualifies under most green-building cool-roof criteria.
What thickness of RAL 9002 PPGI is used for roofing?
0.40–0.50 mm for trapezoidal and corrugated roof and wall sheet; 0.50–0.60 mm for sandwich-panel skins; 0.35 mm for light cladding and liners.
What is the price of RAL 9002 PPGI coil?
It is the base colour of the PPGI list — see the band above, quoted per metric ton FOB Istanbul.
