RAL 7016 Anthracite PPGI

Every architect's render is anthracite. 7016 turned from a niche colour into our third-most-stocked PPGI in five years, and unlike the whites it is bought as much by fence, gate and façade fabricators as by roofers.

What is RAL 7016 PPGI sheet?

RAL 7016, Anthrazitgrau / anthracite grey, is a very dark grey with a blue undertone — the shade the window and door industry standardised in the 2000s and which architecture then adopted for roofs, façades and every exterior metal part, because it reads as black in daylight without the harshness of RAL 9005 and hides dirt and pollution. It reflects only about 6 % of visible light and around 25–30 % of solar energy, so a 7016 roof or wall can reach 70–80 °C in summer sun; the paint system must be formulated for that (heat-resistant PE, or PVDF), and on roofs it is normally specified over insulated or ventilated construction. On PPGI it is supplied as 25 µm polyester (semi-gloss 30–40 or, increasingly, matt 5–15 with a fine texture that hides handling marks), as SMP/HDP for 15–20 years of colour, or as PVDF for façades — dark colours chalk and fade faster than light ones, which makes the system choice matter more here than for the whites. Substrate is DX51D+Z140 or Z275 for exposed façades and coastal sites, Z100 for fencing and interior use. We stock 0.50, 0.60 and 0.70 mm in semi-gloss and matt PE, cut sheet to 6 m, and supply PVDF and Z275 on order; our roll-formers produce trapezoidal, standing-seam and fence-panel profiles from the same coils. RAL 7024 graphite grey and 7021 black grey are the darker neighbours, 7015 slate grey the bluer one.

Dark colours fade and chalk faster: PE is fine for fences, gates and sheltered walls; specify HDP/SMP for roofs and PVDF for façades or any surface with a colour warranty. Matt-textured PE is the current architectural standard and hides installation marks.

Forming, cutting and handling

Forms, folds and roll-forms like any PPGI (T-bend ≤ 2T for PE; PVDF ≤ 1T); shear, slit and punch — no thermal cutting on the painted face. Every scratch on anthracite shows as a silver line: keep the film on until installed, avoid dragging, use nylon-tipped tools, and touch up with matching 7016 paint (we supply it). Matt surfaces mark less but cannot be polished — wash only. Fix with colour-matched screws or concealed clips.

Where it is used

  • Façade cassettes, rain-screen and standing-seam cladding
  • Trapezoidal and standing-seam roofs on houses and offices
  • Fence panels, gates, privacy screens and garden structures
  • Garage and industrial doors, window and door trims
  • Sandwich-panel outer skins on architectural buildings
  • Gutters, downpipes and flashings matching 7016 windows

RAL 7016 vs 7024 vs 9005

RAL 7024 graphite grey is a shade darker and warmer, 7021 black grey darker still, and RAL 9005 jet black is true black (PVDF only outdoors). 7016 is the one that matches the window frames and is stocked. For a lighter modern grey, RAL 9006/9007 metallic silver; for roofing that must stay cool, RAL 9002.

Price

RAL 7016 carries a colour premium of about 25 USD/t over 9002 on the PPGI list; matt-textured and PVDF systems add per system. The bands below are indicative FOB Istanbul for stock PE.

Export and packing

RAL 7016 PPGI sheet ships as coil — eye-to-sky on a wooden cradle, 5–25 t per coil, VCI paper and steel strapping — or as cut sheet on skids of 2–3 t with paper interleaving and edge protectors. A 20' takes one coil up to 20 t; a 40' HC two coils or 24 t of sheet. HS 7210 / 7209 / 7208 by product.

Certificates and testing

Every lot of RAL 7016 PPGI sheet carries an EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificate listing heat, chemistry, mechanical and impact results. On request we add 3.2 witnessing by a classification society or inspector, EN 10160 ultrasonic testing and supplementary impact tests at the customer's design temperature.

How to order

Frequently asked questions

What colour is RAL 7016?

Anthracite grey — a very dark grey with a blue undertone that reads almost black outdoors; the standard dark colour of modern façades, roofs, fences and window frames.

Does RAL 7016 PPGI get hot?

Yes — 70–80 °C in full summer sun; specify a heat-resistant paint system, insulate or ventilate below a 7016 roof and allow for thermal expansion of long sheets.

Which coating for RAL 7016 outdoors?

PE for fences, gates and sheltered walls; HDP/SMP for roofs; PVDF for façades and any 20–25-year colour warranty, because dark colours fade faster.

Is matt RAL 7016 available?

Yes — matt-textured polyester (gloss 5–15) is in stock in 0.50–0.70 mm and is the current architectural standard.

RAL 7016 or RAL 7024?

7024 graphite grey is slightly darker and warmer; 7016 matches the window and door industry standard and is stocked. Do not mix them on one elevation.
