What is RAL 3009 PPGI sheet?
RAL 3009, Oxidrot / oxide red, is the iron-oxide red-brown of traditional roof tiles, red lead primer and painted timber barns — dark (LRV about 12 %), low in chroma, and therefore stable: iron-oxide pigments are among the most light-fast of all, so even the standard polyester system keeps 3009 within a few ΔE for 10–15 years, better than any bright red. On PPGI it is the dominant colour of tile-effect (pantile-profile) roofing sheet and of trapezoidal roofs on houses, farms, warehouses in rural zones, and mosques and schools where planning rules ask for a tile-coloured roof; in the Balkans and the Caucasus it is also the colour of choice for the metal roofs that replaced clay tile. The dark colour absorbs solar heat — a 3009 roof runs 20–25 °C hotter than a 9002 roof in summer sun — which is irrelevant on a ventilated or insulated roof but rules it out where a cool roof is required. We stock 0.40, 0.45 and 0.50 mm coil (Z100, 25 µm PE, grey backing), roll tile-profile and trapezoidal sheet from it, and fold ridge caps, valleys, verge and eaves flashings from the same batch. RAL 8004 copper brown and RAL 3011 brown red are the neighbouring roofing colours and are available to order.
Colour data
| RAL code | Name | Approx. hex | Light reflectance (LRV) | Gloss (60°) | Colour tolerance |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| RAL 3009 | Oxide red / Oxidrot | #6D342D | ≈ 12 % | 30–40 (semi-gloss); matt 10–20 popular for tile profile | ΔE ≤ 1.0 to RAL 841-GL, iron-oxide pigment |
Which paint system holds this colour
| System | Chalking | ΔE at 10 yr | Gloss kept | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PE polyester 25 µm | slight | 2–3 | 50–60 % | tile-profile and rural roofs |
| SMP / HDP 25 µm | low | 1.5–2 | 60–80 % | coastal roofs, 20-yr warranty |
| PVDF 25–35 µm | very low | ≤ 1 | > 80 % | façades, colour warranty |
| Matt-textured PE | masked by texture | 2–3 | n/a | architectural stock |
Iron-oxide reds are the most light-fast pigments: PE is adequate for 10–15 years of colour; choose SMP or PVDF for coastal or high-UV sites (Gulf, North Africa) or a 20-year colour warranty.

Steel at 7.85 kg/dm³ plus Z100 zinc and 25/7 µm paint (≈ 0.10 kg/m²); thickness is the total coated thickness (TCT) unless bare metal (BMT) is specified.
Forming, cutting and handling
Rolls into tile and trapezoidal profiles and folds to 1–2 × t without paint cracking; shear and punch only — no thermal cutting. Dark colours show scratches as bright zinc lines: keep film on, handle with care, and touch up cut edges and scratches with matching 3009 paint. Store coils dry; the dark colour hides wet-storage stain less than you would think.
Where it is used
- Tile-profile roofing sheet for houses, villas and rural buildings
- Trapezoidal roofs on farms, schools, mosques and warehouses in rural zones
- Ridge, valley and flashing pieces
- Fencing and gate infill panels
- Sandwich-panel outer skins where a tile-red roof is required
- Rainwater goods (gutters, downpipes)
RAL 3009 vs 8004 vs 3011
RAL 8004 copper brown is browner and darker — closer to weathered clay; RAL 3011 brown red is brighter and redder. 3009 sits between and is the stock tile red. For a modern dark roof, RAL 7016 anthracite; for a cool roof, RAL 9002.
Price
RAL 3009 carries a small colour premium over 9002 (about 20 USD/t) on the PPGI list and follows the galvanized coil price; the bands below are indicative FOB Istanbul.
Bands from our weekly export list (September 2026), FOB Istanbul, full-container quantities, excluding freight and certificates. Firm price per project on RFQ within one working day.
Export and packing
We load RAL 3009 PPGI sheet as slit or master coils on cradles (VCI paper, strapped, 5–25 t) or as cut-to-length sheet on skids (≤ 3 t, interleaved, edge boards); a 20' container carries one coil to 20 t, a 40' HC two coils or 24 t of sheet. HS 7210 / 7209 / 7208.

Certificates and testing
RAL 3009 PPGI sheet ships with EN 10204 3.1 certificates cross-referenced to the stencilled heat numbers. Where the project requires it we arrange 3.2 certification with Lloyd's, BV, TÜV or SGS, ultrasonic examination to EN 10160 and Charpy testing at the temperature you specify.
How to order
Specify RAL 3009, thickness, width, coil or sheet length (or the profile and m² if we roll it), coating system, gloss (semi-gloss / matt), zinc class, film and quantity; list the accessories so all parts come from one batch.

Frequently asked questions
What colour is RAL 3009?
Oxide red — a dark brown-red like clay roof tiles, the standard red of tile-profile and rural roofing sheet.
Does RAL 3009 fade?
Very little — iron-oxide pigments are extremely light-fast; standard PE holds the colour 10–15 years, SMP/PVDF longer in high-UV climates.
Is RAL 3009 the same as brick red or tile red?
It is the RAL shade most tile-red and brick-red roofing sheets are made in; RAL 8004 (copper brown) and 3011 (brown red) are the neighbouring shades.
What gauge for tile-profile roofing?
0.45 mm is the standard for tile-profile sheet; 0.40 mm for light roofs and 0.50 mm for exposed or snow-load roofs.
Do you supply matching ridge and flashings?
Yes — folded from the same coil batch, up to 6 m long, plus colour-matched screws.
