What is RAL 8017 PPGI sheet?
RAL 8017, Schokoladenbraun, is a deep, slightly reddish brown with a light-reflectance value around 7 % — one of the darkest colours in the roofing palette, which is exactly why it is chosen: a roof in 8017 reads as fired clay from the street, hides the ribs of a trapezoidal profile better than any lighter colour and does not show dust. On coil-coated steel it is made from iron-oxide pigments with a little carbon black, so it is light-fast like RAL 3009 and keeps its shade in the standard 25 µm polyester system for 10–15 years; the price of its darkness is heat — a south-facing 8017 roof reaches 70–80 °C in Gulf summer, which raises the demand for insulation underneath and for the higher-quality SMP or PVDF binders that do not chalk at that temperature. We hold 8017 in gloss PE and in matt-textured PE (the wrinkle finish that mimics the surface of a tile and hides scratches and oil-canning) in 0.40 and 0.50 mm on 1 000 and 1 250 mm coil, roll it into tile-profile, trapezoidal and corrugated sheet on our own lines, and fold ridge caps, hips, valleys, eaves and verge flashings from the same batch so that every part of the roof is one shade. Housing projects in Iraq, Nigeria, Romania and the Balkans, mosques and schools in the Gulf and re-roofing of old clay-tile buildings are the typical orders; sandwich-panel outer skins in 8017 are rolled on request.

Dark colours absorb 85–90 % of solar energy: surface temperatures of 70–80 °C in Gulf summer accelerate chalking of plain PE. For Gulf and African roofs specify SMP or PVDF, or matt-textured PE for villa roofs where texture hides early chalk.

Forming, cutting and handling
Roll-forms and step-presses into tile profile without cracking (PE flexible to T-bend ≤ 2T; matt-textured to 3T), folds at 1–2 × t with the film on; shear and slit cleanly — plasma and laser burn the coating and are avoided. Dark PE scratches show as bright zinc, so keep the film on until the sheet is fixed and cut with shears, not an abrasive disc; touch up cut edges and scratches with 8017 repair paint (supplied). Store coils and packs under cover: dark colours trap condensation heat and show water-staining faster than whites.

RAL 8017 vs 3009 vs 8004
RAL 3009 oxide red is the terracotta alternative — lighter, redder, cooler in the sun and the Balkan / Anatolian tile colour; 8017 is the darker Gulf, Iraqi and African tile colour. Price
RAL 8017 carries a small premium over the RAL 9002 base (about 15 USD/t) and moves with galvanized coil and the paint index; matt-textured adds 5–8 %, SMP 15–20 %, PVDF 30–40 %. Export and packing
RAL 8017 PPGI sheet ships as coil — eye-to-sky on a wooden cradle, 5–25 t per coil, VCI paper and steel strapping — or as cut sheet on skids of 2–3 t with paper interleaving and edge protectors. A 20' takes one coil up to 20 t; a 40' HC two coils or 24 t of sheet. HS 7210 / 7209 / 7208 by product.
