What is RAL 9005 PPGI sheet?
RAL 9005, Tiefschwarz, is a neutral deep black made on carbon-black pigment — the most light-fast pigment there is, so the colour itself does not fade; what ages a black roof is the binder, which chalks to a grey bloom under UV and heat, and the heat itself: a 9005 surface absorbs about 95 % of solar radiation and reaches 80–90 °C on a Gulf or Anatolian summer afternoon. That is why black is specified as matt-textured polyester (the wrinkle texture scatters light so the surface reads black even when slightly chalked, and hides oil-canning on wide flat panels) or as PVDF, whose fluoropolymer binder does not chalk, and why standing-seam and cassette systems in black are detailed with expansion allowance and insulation beneath. On the building it is the colour of contemporary villas, showrooms, restaurants, pergolas, sliding gates and fence panels, black-framed windows and doors, and of the increasingly popular black metal roof on Scandinavian-style houses in the Balkans and Turkey. Carbon black does not fade; the binder chalks. Surface temperature 80–90 °C in summer: never fix black panels rigidly over long runs, and use PVDF or matt-textured PE wherever the surface is seen from close by.

Steel expands 12 µm per metre per °C. A black standing-seam roof over 10 m must slide on its clips; a black trapezoidal sheet screwed through the crest at 10 m length will elongate its holes. Sandwich panels in 9005 are limited to 6–8 m by most panel makers for the same reason.

Forming, cutting and handling
Roll-forms into standing-seam and trapezoidal profiles and folds to 1–2 × t (matt-textured to 3T) with the film on; shears, slits and punches cleanly; laser and plasma are avoided. Every scratch on black shows as silver zinc — film stays on until the panel is clipped, panels are lifted with slings not chains, and edges and fixings are touched up with 9005 repair paint. Do not stack black packs in the sun with film on: the film adhesive can bake onto matt paint above 60 °C.

RAL 9005 vs 7016 vs 7021
RAL 7016 anthracite is the practical dark colour — 10 °C cooler, less chalk-sensitive and the default for dark trapezoidal roofs and panels; 9005 is chosen only when true black is the design intent. RAL 7021 black grey sits between them and is a to-order colour. Warm dark alternatives are RAL 8017 brown; all colours on the PPGI hub.

RAL 9005 carries about 25 USD/t over the 9002 base (carbon black is cheap, but the matt-textured and the tighter batch control are not); PVDF adds 30–40 %, SMP 15–20 %.
