What is Rectangular hollow sections?

A rectangular hollow section is the square tube's longer cousin: the same cold-forming and high-frequency welding from hot-rolled strip, sized to a rectangle whose depth is 1.5 to 3 times its width. The extra depth puts steel where a beam wants it, so an RHS resists bending about its strong axis far better than an SHS of the same weight while keeping a closed, torsion-stiff, easy-to-clad shape — which is why rafters, purlin-free portal frames, trailer chassis, side rails, gate and door frames and machine bases are built from it. EN 10219 sets the tolerances and the grades (S235JRH, S275J0H, S355J2H); the mass is calculated per EN 10219-2 with corner radii of 1.6–2.4 t. Our Dilovası mill rolls it from 10×20×1.2 (furniture tube) to 200×300×10 (structural), and the table above is the real list — every size, every wall, every weight — not a generic catalogue. S235JRH is the stock grade, S355J2H is rolled for the structural sizes above 100 mm.

Cold-formed to EN 10219-1/2 (tolerances: outside dimension ±1 %, wall ±10 %, straightness 0.2 %, corner radius 1.6–2.4 t). CE-marked under EN 10219-1; strip certificates EN 10204 3.1.

Lengths and stock

Standard 6 m (+50/−0), 12 m from 60×120 upward on request; cut lengths ±3 mm. Stock at Dilovası: 30×50 through 100×200 in 1.5–5 mm walls, S235JRH; 100×200×5/6 and 120×200×6 in S355J2H; the rest within a week. EN 10219-2 tolerances: outside dimensions ±1 % (min ±0.5 mm), wall ±10 %, concavity/convexity ≤ 0.8 %, twist 2 mm + 0.5 mm/m, straightness 0.2 %.

Cutting, welding and finishing

Sawing and mitring, 3D laser tube cutting (holes, slots, copes, bird-mouths for trusses), drilling, bending on the strong or weak axis (small sizes), welding into frames, chassis and trusses, hot-dip galvanizing to EN ISO 1461 with vent holes, blast-and-prime, powder coating. Fabricated parts to EN 1090-2 EXC2.

RHS vs SHS — which to choose

If the member bends mainly in one direction (a beam, a rail, a rafter), the rectangle gives the same capacity for less weight; if it is a column, a post or a member loaded both ways, the square section is stiffer overall and easier to connect. Rectangular tube shares the tube-mill price list with square tube; the bands below separate the volume range, the thin-wall small sizes and the heavy sizes. S355J2H, cutting and coatings are added per ton or per piece.

Packing for Rectangular hollow sections: bundles of one size (0.8–2 t), four steel straps, corner boards, a tag with size × wall × length, grade, heat and count; coated sections are separated with paper. 6 m bundles fill a 40' HC at 24–25 t; 12 m on flat-rack or breakbulk from Derince. What is a rectangular hollow section?

How much does 40×80×2 rectangular tube weigh?

3.60 kg/m — 21.6 kg per 6 m bar; 50×100×3 is 6.71 kg/m and 100×200×5 is 22.7 kg/m (see the table for every size).
