What is Unequal angles?
An unequal angle is an L-section whose legs differ in length — 100×50, 150×75, 200×100 — with the same thickness on both legs and a rounded root, dimensioned to EN 10056-1. The geometry is deliberate: the long leg gives depth and therefore bending stiffness, the short leg gives just enough width to bolt or weld. A 100×50×6 angle standing on its short leg spans a 1.2 m door opening as a lintel; the same weight of equal angle (75×75×6) would deflect twice as much. Unequal angles frame the edges of platforms and gratings, form purlin and rail cleats, stiffen tank shells (the short leg against the plate, the long leg out), and build stair stringers, trailer side rails and crane-rail clamps. They ship nested like equal angles and are processed the same way. Turkish mills roll 40×20 to 200×100; 200×150 and rarer combinations are imported. Standard grade S235JR, S355J2 on order.

| S275JR | 275 | 27 J at +20 °C | to order |

Certified to EN 10025-2, CE-marked under EN 10025-1; S235JR is the stocked grade — sections are mostly governed by stiffness and connection geometry, so the higher grades are ordered only where the design demands them.
Lengths, tolerances and stock
Lengths 6 and 12 m. Stock at Dilovası: 40×20×4 through 100×50×8 in S235JR; 100×65 and larger and all S355J2 from the mill programme in 1–3 weeks. Tolerances per EN 10056-2 as for equal angles: legs ±1 to ±3 mm, thickness ±0.5–1.5 mm, straightness ≤ 0.4 %, mass ±6 %. Cut to length ±3 mm.
Cutting, drilling and galvanizing
Sawing and shearing, CNC punching and drilling (both legs), notching and mitring for frames, welding of cleats and stringers, hot-dip galvanizing to EN ISO 1461, blast-and-prime — in Dilovası. We supply lintel angles cut to opening sizes with bearing lengths added.
Where it is used
- Lintels over doors and windows in masonry
- Purlin, rail and grating support cleats
- Platform and walkway edge angles
- Tank curb angles and shell stiffeners
- Stair stringers and trailer side rails
- Crane-rail clamps and machine mounting
Unequal angle vs equal angle
Equal angles are symmetric and bolt either way — the choice for bracing, towers and cleats loaded in both directions. Unequal angles give more depth per kilogram in one direction and a narrower connection leg — the choice for lintels, stringers and edge members. Both come in the same grades and finishes; see equal angle bar and the overview steel angle bar.
Price
Unequal angles sit a few dollars above equal angles per ton because of lower mill volume; the bands below give the month's indicative FOB Istanbul ranges for the stock and heavy sizes.
Bands from our weekly export list (September 2026), FOB Istanbul, full-container quantities, excluding freight and certificates. Firm price per project on RFQ within one working day.
Export and packing
Bundles of Unequal angles are made up by size and length: 1–2 t for 6 m, 2–3 t for 12 m, four steel straps, corner protectors, tag with size, grade, heat number and count. Six-metre material loads 24–25 t in a 40' HC; twelve-metre material goes flat-rack or breakbulk via Derince. HS 7216.

Frequently asked questions
What is an unequal angle?
A hot-rolled L-section with legs of different length (e.g. 100×50×6) to EN 10056-1, used where stiffness is needed in one direction and a narrow leg for connection in the other.
How much does a 100×50×6 angle weigh?
6.84 kg/m — 41 kg per 6 m bar; 150×100×10 is 19.0 kg/m and 200×100×10 is 23.0 kg/m.
What angle size for a lintel?
For 100–115 mm masonry over openings up to 1.2 m, 100×50×6 or 100×75×8 on the short leg; over wider openings 150×75×10 or 150×100×10 — confirm with the load and bearing length.
Are unequal angles in stock?
Sizes 40×20 to 100×50 in S235JR are stocked at Dilovası; larger sizes and S355J2 in 1–3 weeks.
