HEB Beams

HEB is the section a structural engineer draws when the column carries a crane, a silo or six floors: square in proportion, thick in the flange, forgiving of eccentricity. It is the H-beam that Gulf and Iraqi contractors order most from Turkey, and the one whose 12 m bars fill our flat-racks every month.

What is HEB beams?

HEB (DIN 1025-2, IPB = I-Profil Breitflansch) is the standard-weight member of the European wide-flange family. Its geometry is the reference: depth equal to the nominal number, flange width equal to the depth up to 300 mm, flange thickness 10–36 mm. That square proportion gives nearly equal stiffness about both axes in the small sizes and makes HEB the natural column — it takes load with eccentricity, resists buckling in every direction and provides a wide seat for beam connections and base plates. As a girder it carries heavy point loads (crane brackets, transfer beams) where an IPE would need stiffeners. The price is mass: HEB 200 weighs 61 kg/m against 42 for HEA 200 and 22 for IPE 200. Turkish mills roll HEB 100–1000 in S235JR, S275JR and S355J2, CE-marked to EN 10025-1; S355J2 is the normal grade for columns and crane girders.

Rolled sections are certified to EN 10025-2 (S grades) or ASTM A6/A572/A992; CE marking under EN 10025-1. S275JR is what we stock; S235JR and S355J2 are rolled to order or held in the common sizes.

Lengths, tolerances and stock

Lengths 6 and 12 m (+100/−0); 14–18 m on mill order for HEB 240 and above. Stock at Dilovası: HEB 100–400 in S275JR and S355J2; HEB 450–1000 from the mill programme in 1–3 weeks. EN 10034 tolerances: depth ±2 mm (≤ 180) to ±5 mm (≥ 700), width ±3–4 mm, flange −1/+2 mm (up to +3.5 on heavy sizes), out-of-square ≤ 2 %, straightness ≤ 0.15 %, mass −4 % / +6 %. Columns are cut square within 1 mm on request.

Cutting, drilling and galvanizing

Cut square to column length, drilled on the beam-line for splices and base plates, fitted with welded base and cap plates, stiffeners and crane brackets to your drawing under EN 1090-2 EXC2/EXC3; shot-blast Sa 2½ and primer, or hot-dip galvanizing to EN ISO 1461 up to HEB 400 × 12 m. Heavy sizes are handled by gantry crane and shipped loose.

Where it is used

  • Main columns of industrial halls, warehouses and multi-storey buildings
  • Crane-runway columns and heavy girders
  • Transfer beams and heavily loaded lintels
  • Silo, tank and equipment support structures
  • Bridge piers, temporary works and shoring
  • Foundation grillages and pile caps in steel

HEB vs HEA vs HEM

The three share the flange width and differ in thickness: HEA light, HEB standard, HEM heavy (HEM 200 is 103 kg/m). HEB is the default when the column load is substantial or the engineer wants a compact section with room for connections; HEA when weight and price dominate; HEM only for the heaviest columns and is a mill-order item. See HEA beams and the overview page H beams.

Price

HEB is the heaviest volume mover in our sections list; the bands below give the month's FOB Istanbul range for the stock sizes and the heavy range. S355J2 adds the grade premium; fabrication is priced per piece or per ton.

Export and packing

We pack HEB beams in strapped bundles of one size and one length (about 1–2 t per bundle for 6 m, 2–3 t for 12 m), tagged with size, grade and heat. 6 m bundles fill a 40' HC at 24–25 t; 12 m bundles are shipped on flat-racks or breakbulk from Derince. Tariff 7216.

Certificates

HEB beams comes with the mill certificate EN 10204 3.1 (heat, ladle analysis, tensile, impact where the grade requires it) and the dimensional tolerance statement; 3.2 with an inspector, CE marking under EN 10025-1 and factory production control declarations are available on request.

How to order

Send size, grade, length or column schedule, quantity, end preparation (plates, drilling) and coating; a marked drawing gives us enough for weights per line and a firm price.

Frequently asked questions

What does HEB mean?

H-Europäisch B — the standard (B) series of European wide-flange H-beams, also IPB in DIN 1025-2; depth equals the nominal number.

What is the weight of HEB 200?

61.3 kg/m — 736 kg per 12 m bar; HEB 160 is 42.6 kg/m, HEB 300 is 117 kg/m.

Is HEB stronger than HEA?

Yes — for the same number HEB has thicker flanges and web, 20–35 % more mass and proportionally more bending and axial capacity, at the same flange width.

What is the H beam equivalent of HEB in ASTM?

W-shapes of similar depth and mass (e.g. HEB 200 ≈ W8×40, HEB 300 ≈ W12×79); properties are not identical — check the tables. We also roll A572 Gr. 50 / A992 H-beams to order.

Which HEB sizes are in stock in Turkey?

HEB 100–400 in S275JR and S355J2, 6 and 12 m, at our Dilovası yard; HEB 450–1000 from the mill programme in 1–3 weeks.
