What is DD14 forming steel?
DD14 pushes the hot-rolled forming family to its limit: the same 0.08 % carbon ceiling as DD13 but manganese reduced to 0.35 %, phosphorus and sulphur to 0.025 %, a tighter and lower yield window (170–290 MPa), a lower tensile ceiling (380 MPa) and 36 % elongation, all with the non-ageing guarantee. The mill achieves it with a very clean aluminium-killed heat and a controlled coiling temperature that produces a coarse, soft, uniform ferrite — the hot-rolled equivalent of the annealing texture that makes DC05 draw. In the press it gives draw ratios above 2, two-stage draws without intermediate annealing, and stretch-forming of large hot-rolled panels. Typical parts: deep LPG/CNG cylinder halves and re-drawn necks, wheel discs with integral hubs, deep hot-rolled housings and cups, pressed axle and suspension components. It is always pickled and oiled; it is not a stock grade anywhere in Turkey and is rolled against order in 3–4 weeks.

Pickling, oiling and surface
| Condition | Process | Surface | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black (HR, as-rolled) | none — mill scale left on | blue-black oxide, 10–40 µm, flakes when bent | welded structures, plate to be blasted, hidden parts |
| HRPO (pickled & oiled) | HCl pickling of coil, rinse, light oil | uniform grey-metallic, scale-free, Ra ≈ 1–3 µm | forming, painting, roll-forming, tube making, visible parts |
| HRP / HRPO skin-passed | pickling + temper pass | flatter, tighter gauge, no Lüders lines | pressing, blanking, precision parts |
| Dry (pickled, unoiled) | pickling, no oil | bare, rusts within days | immediate galvanizing or welding only |
Turkish trade names: siyah sac = black hot-rolled, HRP / asitli sac = pickled & oiled. The steel grade (S235JR, DD11 …) is the same under both surfaces; only the finish differs.

Forming, welding and painting
Draw ratios above 2, redraws without annealing, stretch-forming of large parts; low blank-holder force, generous radii, drawing oil, polished tools. Welds without preheat with soft, ductile joints; cylinder procedures to EN 10120 / EN 1442 on request. Paint after degreasing.
Where it is used
- Deep LPG / CNG cylinder halves and re-drawn necks
- Wheel discs with integral hubs
- Deep hot-rolled housings, cups and covers
- Pressed axle, suspension and steering components
- Two-stage drawn agricultural and machinery parts
DD14 vs DD13
DD13 from stock draws to a ratio of about 1.9; DD14 to above 2 with a redraw, at about 15 USD/t more and a mill lead time. Try the part in DD13 first unless the specification names DD14 or the draw ratio is known to exceed 2. For thin parts the cold-rolled DC05 is the equivalent level.
Price
DD14 is priced about 35 USD/t over DD11 HRPO; the band below is indicative FOB Istanbul for mill-order coil.
Bands from our weekly export list (September 2026), FOB Istanbul, full-container quantities, excluding freight and certificates. Firm price per project on RFQ within one working day.
Export and packing
DD14 forming steel ships as coil — eye-to-sky on a wooden cradle, 5–25 t per coil, VCI paper and steel strapping — or as cut sheet on skids of 2–3 t with paper interleaving and edge protectors. A 20' takes one coil up to 20 t; a 40' HC two coils or 24 t of sheet. HS 7210 / 7209 / 7208 by product.

Certificates and testing
DD14 forming steel ships with EN 10204 3.1 certificates cross-referenced to the stencilled heat numbers. Where the project requires it we arrange 3.2 certification with Lloyd's, BV, TÜV or SGS, ultrasonic examination to EN 10160 and Charpy testing at the temperature you specify.

Frequently asked questions
What is DD14 steel?
The extra-deep-drawing hot-rolled steel of EN 10111 (1.0389): very clean Al-killed heat, yield 170–290 MPa, elongation ≥ 36 %, non-ageing, pickled and oiled, for the deepest hot-rolled pressings in 1.5–6 mm.
What is the difference between DD13 and DD14?
DD14 has lower manganese, phosphorus and sulphur, a narrower yield window (170–290 vs 170–310 MPa) and 36 % vs 33 % elongation, allowing draw ratios above 2; DD13 is the stock deep-drawing grade.
What is the equivalent of DD14?
JIS SPHF; ASTM A1011 EDDS (hot-rolled); no exact DIN predecessor.
What is the lead time for DD14?
3–4 weeks — rolled to order; DD13 ships from stock.
