What is DD13 forming steel?
DD13 is the third level of EN 10111 and the first true deep-drawing hot-rolled grade: aluminium-killed for a fine, stable grain, carbon at most 0.08 % (typically 0.03), manganese 0.40 %, phosphorus and sulphur 0.030 %, giving a yield window of 170–310 MPa, a tensile ceiling of 400 MPa and 33 % elongation with a six-month non-ageing guarantee. Where cold-rolled DC04 covers 0.4–3 mm, DD13 covers 1.5–6 mm (up to 12 mm at some mills), so it is the grade for thick drawn parts: wheel rims and discs (the classic use — rim strip is DD13 by default), LPG and CNG cylinder halves and feet (with EN 10120 cross-certification), drawn hubs, cups and housings, agricultural discs and pressed structural parts of construction machinery. It is supplied pickled and oiled — never black — because scale would score the die and the part. Drawing behaviour is close to DC04 (r ≈ 1.2–1.4 on hot-rolled texture, n ≈ 0.20); draw ratios to about 1.9 in one stroke. It is a stock grade in Turkey thanks to the wheel and cylinder industries, and the one we hold.

Pickling, oiling and surface
| Condition | Process | Surface | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black (HR, as-rolled) | none — mill scale left on | blue-black oxide, 10–40 µm, flakes when bent | welded structures, plate to be blasted, hidden parts |
| HRPO (pickled & oiled) | HCl pickling of coil, rinse, light oil | uniform grey-metallic, scale-free, Ra ≈ 1–3 µm | forming, painting, roll-forming, tube making, visible parts |
| HRP / HRPO skin-passed | pickling + temper pass | flatter, tighter gauge, no Lüders lines | pressing, blanking, precision parts |
| Dry (pickled, unoiled) | pickling, no oil | bare, rusts within days | immediate galvanizing or welding only |
Turkish trade names: siyah sac = black hot-rolled, HRP / asitli sac = pickled & oiled. The steel grade (S235JR, DD11 …) is the same under both surfaces; only the finish differs.

Forming, welding and painting
Deep drawing to a ratio of about 1.9, redraws with or without intermediate annealing, flow-forming of rims, flanging and hemming at 0 × t; drawing oil or the mill oil for light draws, polished tools. Welds without preheat (very low carbon) — rim strip is flash-butt welded, cylinder halves MAG or SAW welded, to EN 10120 procedures where certified. Paint after degreasing; the pickled surface takes e-coat and powder directly.
Where it is used
- Wheel rims and discs for cars, trucks, tractors and trailers
- LPG / CNG cylinder halves, feet and collars
- Drawn hubs, cups, housings and covers in 2–6 mm
- Agricultural discs and pressed implements
- Construction-machinery pressed parts
- Drawn parts too thick for cold-rolled sheet
DD13 vs DD14 vs DC04
DD14 narrows the window to 170–290 MPa with 36 % elongation for the deepest hot-rolled draws — a mill-order grade. DC04 is the cold-rolled deep-drawing sheet for 0.4–3 mm with a smoother surface and tighter gauge. DD13 is the stock choice between 1.5 and 6 mm; go to DD14 only above a draw ratio of about 2, and to DC04 when the part is thin or visible.

Certificates and testing
DD13 forming steel ships with EN 10204 3.1 certificates cross-referenced to the stencilled heat numbers. Where the project requires it we arrange 3.2 certification with Lloyd's, BV, TÜV or SGS, ultrasonic examination to EN 10160 and Charpy testing at the temperature you specify.
How to order
Specify thickness × width (or slit / blank size), tonnage, the part and any cross-certification (e.g. EN 10120 for cylinders); stock confirmed the same day.

Frequently asked questions
What is DD13 steel?
The deep-drawing hot-rolled steel of EN 10111 (1.0335, ex StW 24): Al-killed, yield 170–310 MPa, elongation ≥ 33 %, non-ageing, supplied pickled and oiled in 1.5–6 mm for wheel rims, cylinders and thick drawn parts.
What steel is used for wheel rims?
DD13 (or DD12) hot-rolled pickled strip is the standard rim material in Europe and Turkey; high-strength rims use S355MC–S420MC.
What is the equivalent of DD13?
DIN StW 24, JIS SPHE, ASTM A1011 DDS Type A.
What is the difference between DD13 and DC04?
Both are deep-drawing grades; DD13 is hot-rolled (1.5–6 mm, hot-rolled tolerances, pickled surface), DC04 is cold-rolled (0.4–3 mm, tighter gauge, smoother surface, higher price).
Is DD13 in stock in Turkey?
Yes — 1.5–6 mm pickled and oiled, coil and sheet, at our Dilovası warehouse.
