Stainless Rectangular Tube

A square tube makes a post; a rectangular tube makes a rail, a frame member, a glazing bar. The rectangular range is where architectural and furniture fabricators find the 40 × 20, 50 × 25 and 80 × 40 they draw most, in the same satin as our round and square.

What is Stainless rectangular tube?

Stainless rectangular tube is roll-formed and TIG or HF welded from 304 or 316 strip — the strip is shaped into a round, welded, then re-shaped into the rectangle so that the corners come out with a small, even radius (about 1–1.5 × t) and the faces flat; the weld sits in the middle of one long face and is ground flush before polishing. Sizes run from 20 × 10 mm to 150 × 50 mm (some mills to 200 × 100) in 1–3 mm walls, with the ratio 2:1 dominating: 40 × 20, 50 × 25, 60 × 30, 80 × 40, 100 × 50. It is the section for anything where a flat wide face is fixed to, glazed into or leaned on — handrail top rails, balustrade and screen frames, glazing bars and door / window sections, furniture and shop-fitting frames, machine guards, kitchen and hospital frames — and, in 2 and 3 mm walls, a light structural member for canopies, pergolas and cladding sub-frames in coastal architecture where painted steel would rust. Surfaces are satin (180–320 grit, the architectural standard) or 2B (mill finish, for hidden and industrial use); mirror on request. Structural design follows EN 1993-1-4 with the stainless material properties (304 yield ≈ 230 MPa, strongly work-hardening). We stock the 304 range in satin 320 and 2B, the common 316 sizes for coastal projects, and cut, mitre, laser-cut and weld frames in-house.

Weight table — square and rectangular stainless tube (kg/m and per 6 m)

Lengths and stock

304 satin 320 and 2B from 20 × 10 to 100 × 50 in 1–2 mm and 80 × 40 to 150 × 50 in 2–3 mm, 6 m, at Dilovası; 316 in 40 × 20, 50 × 25, 80 × 40 and 100 × 50. Other sizes, mirror finish and 316 rectangular in full range from the mill in 2–3 weeks. Cut to length, mitred and laser-cut on our tube laser.

Cutting, mitring, welding and finishing

Cold-saw or tube-laser cut (mitres, notches and holes in one pass); bend only large sizes on a section bender at ≥ 5 × height; TIG-weld with 308L / 316L and purge on visible joints, grind flush and re-satin lengthwise; pickle heat tint. Frames are welded on the wide face where the seam is hidden; glazing bars take 10–12 mm glass in a 20–25 mm channel. Stainless-only tooling; film off within 6 months.

Where it is used

  • Handrail top rails and balustrade frames
  • Glazing bars, door, window and screen sections
  • Furniture, tables, counters and shop fittings
  • Machine guards, kitchen and hospital frames
  • Canopy, pergola and cladding sub-frames (316, coastal)
  • Gate and fence frames

Rectangular vs square vs round

Square tube is the post and the symmetric frame member; rectangular the rail and the beam; round tube the handrail and the bend. All three come in the same satin finish and grades; for chloride sites use 316.

Price

Rectangular stainless tube is priced per ton from the stainless profile list, moving with nickel; satin carries a polishing premium over 2B, large sections a size premium and 316 about 40 %. The bands below are the month\'s indicative FOB Istanbul ranges for the small and large 304 ranges.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes of stainless rectangular tube do you stock?

20 × 10 to 150 × 50 mm in 1–3 mm walls in 304 (satin 320 and 2B), 6 m; 316 in 40 × 20, 50 × 25, 80 × 40 and 100 × 50.

What is the weight of 50 × 25 × 1.5 stainless tube?

About 1.7 kg/m (10.2 kg per 6 m); the full table above covers every size and wall.

Can stainless rectangular tube be used structurally?

Yes, in 2–3 mm walls for canopies, pergolas and frames, designed to EN 1993-1-4 with stainless properties; for heavy structures galvanized S355 hollow sections are far cheaper.

Satin or 2B?

Satin (brushed) for anything visible — architecture, furniture, rails; 2B for hidden frames and industrial use, about 5–8 % cheaper.

304 or 316 rectangular tube outdoors?

304 inland; 316 within a few kilometres of the sea, in pools or with de-icing salt.
