What is P295GH steel plate?
P295GH raises the manganese window (0.90–1.50 %) and the carbon ceiling slightly against P265GH to reach 295 MPa yield and 460–580 MPa tensile while staying a non-alloy, aluminium-killed, normalised fine-grain pressure-vessel steel. EN 10028-2 certifies its proof strength at temperature — 250 MPa at 100 °C, 209 at 200 °C, 172 at 300 °C, 147 at 400 °C for plate up to 16 mm — so a designer sizing a shell to EN 13445 or AD 2000 can take the full benefit of the higher grade. Its DIN name 17Mn4 still appears on older German boiler drawings, and ASME users match it with A516 Grade 65. The price of the extra strength is a carbon equivalent that can reach 0.45: preheat is needed above about 20 mm and PWHT above 30 mm. It is a mill-programme grade in Turkey; volumes are smaller than P265GH, so we plan 2–4 weeks and can offer P355GH as an upward substitute when time is short.

Nominal weights — mill tolerance to EN 10029 class A adds up to +4 % on thin plate; invoiced on theoretical weight unless agreed otherwise.
Welding, cutting and forming
Qualified procedures with basic low-hydrogen consumables (E46 basic, G4Si1); preheat 100 °C above 20 mm, 125 °C above 40 mm, interpass ≤ 250 °C; PWHT 550–600 °C above about 30 mm wall and for all tube-plate weldments. Cold forming 2.5 × t; hot forming 900–1 000 °C with normalising after. UT above 40 mm and for all dished-end blanks. Flame-cut edges ground on pressure boundaries.
Where it is used
- High-pressure steam boilers and steam drums
- Large autoclaves and sterilisers
- Process reactors and columns to 400 °C
- Heat-exchanger shells with high design pressure
- Air receivers above 30 bar
- Boiler drums for waste-heat and biomass plants
P295GH vs P355GH
P355GH adds another 20 % yield (355 MPa) and a proportionally better temperature curve, at the cost of carbon up to 0.22 %, compulsory preheat and PWHT and a slightly higher price. For a shell that is thick because of pressure, P355GH is the more efficient plate; P295GH is the choice when the shop prefers milder welding rules or the code table already calls it. See P355GH and, for the volume grade, P265GH.
Price
P295GH is priced about 230 USD/t over the S235JR base. The band below is the indicative FOB Istanbul range for made-to-order plate; UT and 3.2 inspection extra.
Bands from our weekly export list (September 2026), FOB Istanbul, full-container quantities, excluding freight and certificates. Firm price per project on RFQ within one working day.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between P265GH and P295GH?
P295GH has 295 MPa yield versus 265, higher elevated-temperature values and a tensile band of 460–580 MPa; it allows roughly 10 % thinner shells but has a higher carbon equivalent and needs preheat above 20 mm.
What is 17Mn4?
The DIN 17155 name of P295GH — a manganese-strengthened boiler plate; the EN 10028-2 grade (1.0481) replaced it.
What is the ASTM equivalent of P295GH?
ASTM A516 Grade 65 (240 MPa yield, 450–585 MPa tensile) is the usual comparison.
What is the lead time for P295GH plate?
2–4 weeks from the Turkish mill programme or EU import for 6–40 mm, 4–6 weeks for thicker plate; it is not a stock grade.
