Car-park guardrails, vehicle barriers and bollards — fabricated and galvanized
A car park needs its steel in three places: at the edge of every level, around every column and where pedestrians walk. We fabricate the barriers, protectors and bollards from our own hollow sections, W-beam and pipe, design them to the vehicle-impact load of EN 1991-1-1, galvanize or colour them, and ship bolted kits with the anchors.
Design basis
Edge and impact barriers in car parks are designed to EN 1991-1-1 §6.3.2.2 (horizontal force from a 2.5 t vehicle at 4.5 m/s: 150 kN over 1.5 m at 375 mm height for cars up to 2.5 t; 100 kN for restricted ramps) and to EN 1991-1-7 where heavier vehicles apply; pedestrian rails to 1.0–1.1 m with 1 kN/m; posts anchored with chemical or through anchors to the slab edge. Materials and finishes
- Hollow sections S235JRH / S355J2H and W-beam from our own mills; pipe Ø 42.4–219 mm
- Hot-dip galvanized to EN ISO 1461 as standard (70–85 µm) — the finish that survives salt and damp car parks
- PPGI / powder-coated colour where visibility is required: RAL 1018 zinc yellow, 1023, black-yellow chevrons, 7016
- Stainless 304 / 316 bollards and rails for retail and coastal projects
- Rubber or PE buffers on rails and bollards on request
Kits, packing and installation
Guardrails are supplied as posts with welded base plates, rails in 3–6 m lengths with splice sleeves, bolts M12–M16 8.8 galvanized and chemical anchors, numbered to the level plan; column protectors and bollards palletised; a 40' HC takes about 600–900 m of edge guardrail. Installation by drilling and anchoring to the slab from the plan; we provide the anchor layout and pull-out requirements.
Pricing and lead time
Quoted per running metre from the level plans: galvanized hollow-section edge guardrail 1.1 m high typically 90–160 USD/m ex works, W-beam barrier 60–100 USD/m, column protectors and bollards per piece; lead time 3–5 weeks including galvanizing. Material, fabrication, galvanizing and anchors are shown as separate lines.

What load are car-park barriers designed for?
150 kN horizontal from a 2.5 t vehicle at 375 mm height (EN 1991-1-1) for the edge barrier, plus 1 kN/m pedestrian load at 1.1 m on the top rail; heavier loads for lorries on request.
Galvanized or painted?
