What is S460MC steel?
S460MC is produced exactly like S355MC — thermomechanical rolling of a low-carbon, Nb-Ti-V micro-alloyed steel — with the alloying and the finishing temperature tuned for 460 MPa minimum yield and 520–670 MPa tensile. The carbon limit stays at 0.12 %, manganese rises to 1.60 %, and the minimum bend radius grows only slightly (1.0 × t up to 3 mm, 1.5 × t above, transverse). Charpy energy is still 40 J at −20 °C longitudinal. Because it keeps the full formability of the family while adding 30 % strength, it is a direct substitute for S355MC in a design that is governed by yield: the part gets thinner, lighter and — because it is the same steel family — the welding, cutting and painting procedures do not change. It is less common on the shelf than 355 or 500, so we treat it as a mill-order grade.

Nominal weights — mill tolerance to EN 10029 class A adds up to +4 % on thin plate; invoiced on theoretical weight unless agreed otherwise.
Welding, cutting and forming
Bend at 1 × t (≤ 3 mm) or 1.5 × t (> 3 mm) transverse, 2 × t longitudinal, burr inside; higher strength means more spring-back than S355MC — allow 2–3° extra over-bend. Welding without preheat (CEV ≈ 0.32), G46 / G50 consumables, heat input ≤ 1.5 kJ/mm on thin gauges to avoid HAZ softening. Laser and plasma cut cleanly; punching needs about 15 % more press force than S355MC. No hot forming, no normalising.

S460MC vs S500MC
Only 40 MPa separates them and mills often supply S500MC against an S460MC enquiry because it is more common. The practical differences: S500MC has a slightly higher bend radius and tensile range (550–700 MPa) and a few percent higher price; S460MC remains the exact match for designs calculated with the EN 10025-4 S460M plate curves. If you are converting from S355MC and want the safest formability, take S460MC; if you want the most common stock size, take S500MC.

S460MC is priced with the S500MC premium (about 200 USD/t over S235JR) as mills produce both on the same route. The band below is indicative FOB Istanbul for coil; cut sheet adds the cut-to-length charge.

Export and packing
S460MC steel leaves Dilovası on timber skids in packs of up to 5 t, steel-strapped with corner protectors and the heat number stencilled on every plate. Six-metre plate loads 24–25 t into a 40' HC. 12 m and heavy plate go by flat-rack or breakbulk from Derince port. Customs code 7208.51 / 7208.52.

Certificates and testing
Every lot of S460MC steel carries an EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificate listing heat, chemistry, mechanical and impact results. On request we add 3.2 witnessing by a classification society or inspector, EN 10160 ultrasonic testing and supplementary impact tests at the customer's design temperature.
How to order
Give thickness × width, tonnage and whether S500MC is acceptable as an alternative — it often ships faster. Cut-to-length and slitting are done in Dilovası before shipment.
