S355J0WP Corten Sheet

For anything that hangs on a wall or stands in a garden, the −20 °C impact guarantee of J2WP buys nothing — the same sheet certified as S355J0WP does the same job. Fabricators who order corten by the ton know this, and we quote whichever certificate is in stock.

What is S355J0WP corten sheet?

EN 10025-5 lists two phosphorus-alloyed weathering grades that differ in one line of the table: S355J0WP (1.8945) is impact-tested at 0 °C and S355J2WP (1.8946) at −20 °C. Chemistry, strength, thickness limit (12 mm), weathering behaviour and price basis are the same — the mill either tests the heat at the lower temperature or does not — and in practice the two are cut from the same coils, so a fabricator ordering corten sheet for cladding, screens, planters or sculpture can accept either. J0WP is worth asking for when availability or price favours it; J2WP is the one to specify where a structural engineer applies EN 1993-1-10 toughness rules to a load-bearing element in a cold climate, which architectural sheet almost never is. Everything else on this page — the copper-chromium-phosphorus chemistry, the wet-dry patina, the run-off staining, the need for weathering-grade welding wire and stainless fixings, the drainage details — applies equally to both grades. Where the two WP grades are unsuitable is also the same: permanently wet, buried, marine-splash or de-icing-salt environments, where the patina never stabilises, and thicknesses above 12 mm, where the structural S355J2W / K2W (Corten B) grades take over.

Fabrication, fixing and finishing

Cut, fold and weld exactly as S355J2WP: laser or plasma, 1–1.5 × t bends, weathering-grade wire on visible seams, stainless A4 or weathering fixings, drainage everywhere. For an even patina before installation we supply blasted (Sa 2) or pre-weathered sheet; for interiors a matt clear sealer stops the dusting once the colour is right. Keep the sheets dry and oil-free in storage — an oily fingerprint shows for a year.

Where it is used

  • Façade and fence panels, perforated and plain
  • Garden edging, planters, raised beds and retaining walls
  • Sculptures, lettering and signage
  • Fire pits, barbecues and outdoor furniture
  • Interior feature walls and shopfitting (sealed)
  • Gabion facings and screens

S355J0WP vs S355J2WP

One line of the certificate: impact at 0 °C (J0WP) or −20 °C (J2WP). For architecture and landscape either is right; specify J2WP only where a structural check under EN 1993-1-10 requires it. For plate above 12 mm or for structural use, go to S355J2W corten plate.

Export and packing

S355J0WP corten sheet ships as coil — eye-to-sky on a wooden cradle, 5–25 t per coil, VCI paper and steel strapping — or as cut sheet on skids of 2–3 t with paper interleaving and edge protectors. A 20' takes one coil up to 20 t; a 40' HC two coils or 24 t of sheet. HS 7210 / 7209 / 7208 by product.

Certificates and testing

Every lot of S355J0WP corten sheet carries an EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificate listing heat, chemistry, mechanical and impact results. On request we add 3.2 witnessing by a classification society or inspector, EN 10160 ultrasonic testing and supplementary impact tests at the customer's design temperature.

How to order

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between S355J0WP and S355J2WP?

Only the impact-test temperature — 0 °C for J0WP, −20 °C for J2WP. Chemistry, strength and weathering are identical; the heats are often dual-certified.

Is S355J0WP Corten A?

Yes — it is the EN 10025-5 phosphorus-alloyed weathering steel that corresponds to Corten A, like S355J2WP.

Can I use S355J0WP for a façade?

Yes; the 0 °C impact rating is irrelevant for cladding, screens and landscape elements. Only load-bearing structural members in cold climates need J2WP.

Does corten work near the sea?

Beyond about 2 km yes, with faster loss; in the splash zone or within a few hundred metres the patina never stabilises — use 316 stainless or paint.

Do you supply pre-weathered corten?

Yes — blasted or pre-rusted sheet and panels to order, so the colour is even from the day of installation.
